Biography

Hi! My name is Jonathan Drover and Im a photographer. I mainly do wildlife, landscape and astro photography. This website is a display of some of my best shots

Blue Heron Taking off from Rocky Shore

I started my photography adventure in grade 9 when i was accepted to the media arts program at St Roch Secondary School. Where there i was taught the basics of Media Arts Including photography, videography, production and documentaries. In the end i would end up graduating high school with my major in media arts and would use it to get into my current profession… a computer scientist… Yeah all though I loved the media arts for me it was to close to english in my mind where there was alot of grey area in what was right and wrong where as the Maths and Sciences it was either right or wrong and that I could be more confident in when deciding the jobs that would pay the bills. None the less I Stuck with photography on and off through out the years. I did enjoy wildlife photography in the beginning. This shot of this black capped chickadee was my first ever shot i was really happy with back in 2014 I got with my rebel t5i and 70-300mm

Though i never really stuck with photography consistently it was always something I would come back too from time to time. I started to get serious with my photography back in 2021 with the pandemic stopping sports and gym at school was my release at the time and i needed something else to do so i decided to pick up my camera and start going on hikes in the Niagara Region which was new to me and had lots of new environments compared to the GTA where i grew up.

Now I photograph for the enjoyment of experiencing nature and its similar to the hunting where half the enjoyment is the tracking and the satisfaction of finally finding your target gives an incredible amount satisfaction. I always tell the joke of i shoot animals just like a hunter but the animal walks away after I shoot it.
